Environment:
Jalan Pudu used to be famous for the now defunct Pudu Prison and KL Police Contingent Headquarters, or IPK KL. Despite being a pretty quiet street, Jalan Galloway situates the Swiss-Garden Hotel and few rows of decades-old houses, them enjoying the safety of being located right in front of this important civil office.
VCR is located next to the blue and white Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen KL.
The corner house nearest to Swiss-Garden Hotel is particularly eye-catching compared to the rest, a whole unit painted charcoal black on the outside. A small sign that says 'VCR - Coffee and Cakes' at the entrance, inviting curious passer-bys into this establishment.
Coffee bar located at the entrance.
Greeting you at the entrance is the coffee bar, with friendly baristas and distinct aroma of coffee and cakes. The pretty industrial interior of VCR plays with black painted metal, wooden panels and white bricks makes patron disbelieve that they are actually standing on a refurbished residential unit.
Upper floor - corridor visible from the outside.
On the upper floor, VCR makes full use of its corner unit by renovating its long corridor with full height glass panels, making the corridor visible from the outside. The sunny Malaysian sky might make sitting in this corridor unpractical during the afternoon, but is compensated for its awesome view of Bukit Bintang.

Best time to enjoy this beautiful offering? Early morning or during sunset where the sun or street lights paint picturesque shadows of the metal frames with their yellow lights, from floor to ceiling. :)
More spaces at the end of the corridor.
Smokers or outdoor-lovers could hangout at VCR's entrance / porch, or the lovely veranda on the upper floor. Carpeted with artificial grass, patrons would be able to see the back alley, a different view of KL city.
Outdoor veranda facing the back of VCR.
FYI, there are a few guesthouses or bed-and-breakfasts behind VCR. The one visible from this veranda is the Sekeping Sin Chew Kee, and beyond that is Sarang Mas. Thus don't be surprised if you spot a number of backpackers around this area. Be friendly Malaysians and show some hospitality to these visitors, making them feel welcomed. :)

Food & Beverage:
The hype about VCR is not just about its charming ambience. No cooked food is available here, and this shows how much VCR takes pride and passion in emphasizing good coffeehouse fundamental products, coffee and cakes.
Coffee and cakes.
VCR is founded by an Artisan trained barista. Backed by a team of passionate baristas and a sexy Synesso coffee machine, VCR produce some serious coffee, using Coffex and Artisan blends. It makes you wonder how many cups do these baristas drink every morning to calibrate the machine, serving patrons these good cup of joes? :)
Espresso-based and filter coffee. Can you spot which is which? :)
For cakes, best sellers are The King (it has a powerful name for a reason, won't you want to try it? - banana slices stuffed between sponge cake, coated with peanut cream and crushed peanuts) and Black Velvet (black is the new red? - chocolate version of Red Velvet).
Black Velvet (middle) and the King (bottom).
During my VCR visit, I am privileged to have another Artisan trained barista joining me - Feenie Looi, currently brewing coffee at PJ's Coffee Good Golly Miss Molly.

Verdict:
Serving good coffee and cakes in one of the most memorable ambiance a coffeehouse (literally a house) could provide. VCR is deserving to be an iconic landmark and a must-visit place for KL visitors.

  4. The drip brewer is the commonest and one of the best coffee makers. You probably have one at work, and maybe at home too. I suggest you to visit Coffee With Conscience

  5. Whether or not we're drinking a little too much, it's certainly important to us that we drink good coffee. Which is where home coffee machines come in. More info at https://gallacoffeeblog.co.uk

  6. Breville, Dualit, DeLonghi, Morphy Richards and Russell Hobbs are among the big names in the electric kettle market - but you'll also find cheap and cheerful own-brand kettles from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Argos. gooseneck pour over kettles
