Environment:
The coffee scene has been growing these couple of years in our beloved country. But when the scene starts to mature in Malaysia, will it be sustainable for independent cafes to continue operating, and to remain relevant in the industry? If yes, how? What are the possible factors that one needs to take into account, both locally (government policies) and internationally (commodity prices, coffee supply, etc.)?
No.11 - a 5-year project focusing on the coffee scene sustainability study.
Espressolab team plans to address this issue by setting up this new exciting project called No.11. This new Espressolab branch is being setup at Sunway Damansara, in a factory lot close to Espressolab's roasting center.
A pool table in No.11 Espressolab!
Yes you read it right, its a cafe in a factory lot, like how Garage 51 does it. :) There is even a pool table inside!

I have the privilege to speak to two brilliant coffee connoisseurs who have made a big impact to the coffee scene in Malaysia - Leong and Joshua, the founders of Espressolab. They have been very friendly and welcoming during our visit, even shared with us some valuable insights on the coffee industry, besides a game of pool. Playing with a man with such significance to the coffee craft, I can't resist but to boast that I beat Leong in pool. :P
Training centre at the top floor.
To sum up, these are the few purposes of setting up this chic Espressolab factory cafe:

  1. Project focusing on the study of sustainability in the coffee industry
  2. Multi purpose community center
  3. Espressolab's coffee training center

And of cause, this cool cafe is kinda like a chill out spot for the Espressolab's team, since their roasting center is around the corner. That explains the pool table. :)
Leong's sharing on No.11 Espressolab project mission statement.

Food & Beverage:
All the usual Espressolab menu is served here, such as the cakes, croissants, and sandwiches. Coffee, by default, uses Espressolab's signature house blend with double shot of espresso. Alternatively, you could try their Mokha Mokka blend which goes well with, u guess it right, Mocha.
Candy Crush (top left), Americano (top right), and Mocha (bottom).
Want something special instead? No.11 Espressolab serves single origins too, with your choice of brewing method (syphon / chemex / aeropress). You could get the baristas here to help you to pick the beans and brewing method that suits your taste best, these guys are pros.

Caffeiniacs also wouldn't want to miss the special Espressolab's house blend called the Candy Crush, a mix of 2 types of Ethiopian and 1 type of Kenyan beans - high acidity, fruity with hints of tangerines, a malt mid tone and finishes with a heavy coffee standard.
Nutella Mille Crepe.

Verdict:
A cool factory cafe in industrial area of Damansara, a place where you could bum into the coffee experts from the Espressolab's vast team.
